How RebatePop works, end to end

Everything the short version skipped: the customer journey, the verification rules, every placement, the refund mechanics, and content rights.

How it works

From install to a library of licensed UGC

RebatePop runs the whole loop inside Shopify. You set the offer once. Customers do the creating. RebatePop does the verifying and the refunding.

  1. 1

Pick a product and accept the recommended rebate

    5 minutes

Choose a product, and RebatePop suggests reward tiers based on its price: a video, a public post, and view milestones. Adjust anything. Set a budget. Choose the content rights you want.

  2. 2

The offer shows up where buyers decide

    Theme app block

"Earn up to 60% back" appears on your product page, in cart, on the thank-you page, in a post-purchase email, or on packaging via QR. Every surface is a toggle in your admin.

  3. 3

    Customers create and post

    Real buyers

Buyers upload a product video, then share it to TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube Shorts with the required disclosure. Because RebatePop verifies rather than you, they trust the payout and press record.

  4. 4

RebatePop verifies and refunds through Shopify

    Independent verification

Each milestone is checked against the objective criteria you published, then paid as a partial refund on the original order. No new payout rails, no manual approvals, no over-refunds.

  5. 5

Content lands in your library, licensed

    Licensed UGC

Approved videos and their social performance appear in your content library with license terms attached. Filter by product, platform, and rights. Reuse on your site and socials.

Independent verification

Independence is what makes customers press record.

Buyers will not spend twenty minutes filming if they think the brand can refuse to pay. With RebatePop, you define objective requirements up front and RebatePop makes the call. That trust is why participation is high, and it keeps you on the right side of FTC rules on incentivized content.

Objective criteria merchants can require

  • Video is at least 30 seconds long
  • The purchased product is clearly visible
  • Product is shown in use
  • Vertical format, original audio
  • Spoken commentary describes their actual experience
  • Disclosure appears in the caption and on screen

Chosen from a library of measurable requirements. Frozen for each participant the moment they become eligible, so the rules cannot change under them.

Sentiment criteria RebatePop blocks

  • "Say that you love it"
  • "Leave us a 5-star review"
  • "Recommend the product"
  • "Say at least three positive things"
  • "Tell everyone how much you love it"

The rebate builder warns on and blocks sentiment-conditioned requirements, and every social task carries a mandatory disclosure. Positive, neutral, and critical content all qualify, which is exactly what makes it credible to the people watching.

Every decision is documented

You never have to adjudicate a customer. Every rejection cites the exact criterion and evidence, appeals go to RebatePop, and everything is audit logged. You can report suspected fraud or a criteria violation at any time.

For merchants

Put the offer in front of every buyer, without touching your theme

The best moment to recruit a creator is the moment someone buys. RebatePop shows the offer on the product page, in cart, at checkout where allowed, on the thank-you page, in email, and on packaging. Every surface is a toggle.

Show the offer everywhere it matters

Every surface can be enabled, disabled, and styled individually. Storefront impact stays tiny: widget code loads only where an offer exists.

Product page

Theme app block with compact and full layouts. Position it in the theme editor. No fragile theme edits.

Cart

Shows eligible offers attached to the items already in the cart.

Checkout

Checkout UI Extension where the plan allows it. Gracefully omitted elsewhere.

Thank-you & order status

"You can earn up to $X back on this product" with a signed deep link into the claim.

Post-purchase email

Configurable, consent-aware templates that send the customer straight to their claim.

QR / packaging

Printable QR codes for a rebate, a product, or your RebatePop landing page.

  • Cost per piece of UGC and cost per 1,000 views

Social milestones

Pay for reach only when it actually happens

View-based tiers turn your rebate into performance marketing. A post that goes nowhere costs you the base reward. A post that takes off unlocks more, and RebatePop verifies every view count at the source before a cent moves.

Tokens are encrypted at rest and never shown to merchants. If an API is unavailable, a manual verification flow with screenshots and RebatePop review keeps the claim moving.

View thresholds merchants can reward

500 views1,000 views5,000 views10,000 views50,000 views100,000 views

Polling that respects reality

Frequent right after publication, slower as posts age, stopped when the performance window closes. Every observation is stored so growth can be charted and suspicious spikes flagged.

Disclosure is built in

Every social task carries a mandatory disclosure that merchants cannot disable. Example: “I received a rebate from [Brand] through RebatePop for creating this content. My opinions are my own.”

What RebatePop checks on every post

  • Post belongs to the connected, verified account
  • Post is public and stays live for the required window
  • Publication timestamp and duration recorded
  • Required disclosure present in caption and video
  • One post cannot be reused across incompatible claims
  • Manual evidence path when an API cannot answer
How the money moves

Refunds through Shopify. No escrow, no gift cards, no new payout rails.

RebatePop issues merchant-authorized partial refunds against the customer's original order. The customer keeps the product and sees money back on the card they paid with. No product is restocked.

Re-read Shopify before every payout

RebatePop fetches the live order, existing refunds, returns, and Shopify's maximum refundable amount immediately before moving money. Stale numbers in a database are never trusted.

Idempotent by design

Every payout carries an idempotency key. A duplicated webhook, retried job, page reload, or race condition can never produce two refunds for the same reward.

Never over-refund

Each incremental refund is capped against what Shopify can still refund. If the merchant already refunded or the item was returned, no further rebate is issued.

Budget is a liability control

Reserved, earned-but-unpaid, refunded, released, and remaining capacity are tracked separately and locked with database transactions during concurrent checkouts.

Shown to customers before they join: Rebate rewards are issued as refunds to your original payment method and reduce the remaining refundable balance on your Shopify order.
Content rights

Own the content you paid for, on terms creators actually accept

Rights are part of the offer, not fine print. Pick a package once and it attaches to every approved video in your library. Clear terms up front mean more customers participate and you never chase a creator for permission later.

Creator only

No reuse

Merchant can view and verify the submission. Nothing more.

Recommended default

Organic reuse

12 months · non-exclusive

Use on your product pages and your own organic social channels.

Paid advertising

90 days

Run the creative in paid ads. Requires an additional reward and explicit creator acceptance.

Extended paid usage

6 or 12 months

Longer paid-media terms with higher recommended compensation.

Explicit opt-in

Creator-handle whitelisting

Opt-in only

High-sensitivity rights, never included by default, always separately compensated.

Terms are frozen for each accepted claim and expiration dates are tracked automatically. Suggested compensation for extra rights adapts to creator reach over time.

FAQ

Straight answers

The questions merchants ask before they trust a rebate program with their customers.

  • Whatever you set. A common structure on a $100 product is $15 for a verified video, $15 more when it is posted publicly, and $10 to $20 more only if it reaches 1,000 or 10,000 views. Rebates are paid from the order as Shopify refunds, and RebatePop charges a small percentage of each rebate successfully processed. There is no monthly fee.
